Without the appropriate
inhibitors and/or operating environment, ethylene glycol
can 'break-down' to form acids (see below). These acids
will greatly accelerate corrosion within multi-metal heating
and cooling systems.

Propylene glycol
undergoes metabolic oxidation to pyruvic acid, acetic acid,
lactic acid, and propionaldehyde (Miller & Bazzano,
1965; Ruddick, 1972).
